What Google Veo actually is
- Native audio is always on for Veo 3.1: dialogue, sound effects and ambience come out of the same generation
- Clip lengths of 4, 6 or 8 seconds. 1080p and 4K are available at 8 seconds only
- 24fps output, in 16:9 (default) and 9:16
- Video extension, frame-specific generation and image-based direction
- In Google Flow a Veo 3.1 Quality generation is a flat 100 credits regardless of clip length, while Gemini Omni Flash in the same credit table is priced per length (4s: 15, 6s: 20, 8s: 25, 10s: 30)
Limits and catches
- Maximum native clip length is 8 seconds, so a 10 second clip is impossible in one generation
- Every Veo output is watermarked with SynthID, on every plan, with no opt-out
- Generated videos sit on Google's server for 2 days and are then removed, so you have to download them
- In EU, UK, CH and MENA locations the personGeneration parameter is restricted to allow_adult for Veo 3 and 3.1
- Flow requires a Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra subscription (or a qualifying Workspace plan), age verification at 18+, and a supported region
- Flow credits and Gemini API billing are separate pools that do not convert into each other
What does Google Veo cost?
Flow gives non-subscribers 50 credits per day at no cost, but they never roll over, and a Veo 3.1 Quality generation costs 100 credits, so the top quality tier stays out of reach without a subscription. The Gemini API lists every Veo model as 'Not available' on the free tier.
